Conservation Theater is an outdoor venue at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo that allows guests to get up close to animals as their keepers provide educational information and fun facts. Peter Wood Productions is responsible for all stage signage, keeping an accurate look and feel to the productions.
A hut at center stage acts as masking between the audience and the backstage door. While the animals are kept in the backstage section, the illusion is created of all animals being stored in the small onstage hut.
On the far sides of the stage, multimedia columns provide audio and video to the guests, supplementing the presenter's material during the show, and advertising other zoo offerings between shows. Dual 32" televisions display the images, and integrated speakers ensure that the music, sound effects, and presenter are heard.
A DVD player sends a video signal to both televisions, and an audio signal backstage to the audio board. A push-button switch in the hut allows the presenter to advance the DVD to the next chapter as they enter or exit with an animal, allowing the show to be timed perfectly to their presentation.
Peter Wood Productions also handles the production of the various DVDs utilized on the stage, which may be generic bookends to a performance, or may be customized for a particular season's show.
